Nom Nom Pumpkin Chili Recipe

pumpkin chili

This time of year, I’m all about soups and stews and that’s why I flipped over this pumpkin chili recipe.

The hubster and I are full-on into our “SuperClean 2014″ decluttering and paring down project, and it’s going really well. In the first quarter, we decided we wanted to clear out our pantry, so we’ve made a game out of it. The big rule is that the hubster and I have agreed not to buy anything that might go in the pantry or freezer- no new pasta or rice, nothing in a can or jar or any kind of package, and no new meat. We can buy dairy and produce. That’s it. So everything we make has to come from the produce and dairy I get to buy, plus whatever’s already in the freezer and pantry. Continue Reading

Lime, Pineapple, and Rosemary Infused Tequila

limesI’ve been on a rosemary kick lately, mostly because I read a bunch of articles that indicated that I should probably enjoy my rosemary plant now because it’s not likely to survive the winter. Bummer. Should’ve planted it in a pot, but darn it, I like having it in the ground next to my kitchen door! Anyway, my Crucial Porthole Infuser arrived the other day (yay!) and I decided that my first infusion would be a lime pineapple rosemary infused tequila. Continue Reading

Fresh Rosemary Limeade

Rosemary LimeadeThe other night I was looking around for recipes involving rosemary. My rosemary plant flourished this summer and I wanted to do some stuff with it. I happened upon this rosemary lemonade recipe, which looked delightful, but I didn’t have any lemons. I did, however, have a rather large bag of limes sitting on my kitchen counter, waiting for me. So I decided, “Why not make a new twist on this thing and make rosemary limeade?” That’s exactly what I did. Continue Reading

Fresh Herb-Infused Oil

herb-infused oilsI’m married to man who is half Italian and half Spanish. So, you know, he loves to cook. I’ve been growing rosemary, basil, oregano, and parsley by our kitchen door all summer long, cutting fresh herbs as-needed for cooking. This morning, I decided to pinch off some herbs for a fresh herb infused oil that we can use for cooking, salads, and who-knows-what-else. Continue Reading

Cinnamon Blackberry Brandy

blackberriesIn the late summer, when the berries and other fruits start to appear in the farmer’s markets, I just can’t help but want to do stuff with them. They’re so, so beautiful. This year, I decided to splurge on some gorgeous blackberries to test out a homemade blackberry brandy. I’ve been wanting to try fermenting other fruits, and this seemed like a good time. Continue Reading

Autumn Spice Pear-Infused Vodka

In Progress Projects: Vanilla Coffee Liqueur

vanilla bean coffeeMy friend and client, Brande, author of the very excellent blog,¬†Tomato Envy, recently turned me on to Food in Jars, a fabulous small batch canning blog (and book). Marisa posted a recipe for vanilla coffee liqueur that I simply could not resist, given that my hubster, Leo, loves it when my brother-in-law sneaks him a glass of his own homemade Kahlua. It is now in progress in my pantry. Here’s how I made mine… Continue Reading
